Gotta be a Robin. There was a Robin town? Besides the fake-Robin that was Aang? News to her.

...She tried to sit up. Possibly a little newly alarmed.

"You're serious?"

"His claim, lassie."

"Can't be doing that good of a job. I'd notice if you were being... surveilled."

"Annie? It's the Batman." Jack cuddled round her as though even at this moment those beady bat-eyes were peering into their cozy treehouse. "He watches from the shadows, bloody tosser."

"But he's just a guy. Not even really a rea--"

Nah. That wasn't going to cut it. Not when so many people insisted -- and so recently -- that she too wasn't real.

"...Slayers can totally win against Batmen. I'll pinky swear it."

"But he's meant to be a good guy, love!"

"You? You haven't read the comics or seen the movies or watched the shows. Batman? Kind of a jerk."

"Well I KNOW that! Doesn't change anything!"

"You know, I don't even think he's in town anymore. I used to run into him on patrols. But nothing lately."

"I dunno. Suppose I'll continue to be a very careful pirate where the Batman is concerned."

"How long've you been here, huh? And who's been the person to mostly uncover the majority of your scheming? Not the Batman."

Nope. More like Buffy Summers. Vampire Slayer.

".....Maybe I let you uncover it. You ever think of that?"

She still hadn't settled peacefully back into the hammock. Instead, she eyed him dubiously through the shadows.

"There's no way. You don't." A pause. "Do you?"

"I liked having you chase after me. Scary, but....liked it."

[herotypical]

"I honestly can't decide whether that's incredibly adorable or incredibly creepy."

Probably the latter. When in doubt? Go with creepy. "Still? I'm not buying it. There are things that--"

Things and schemes and plots that she's convinced he hadn't intended for he to know about.

"Right, maybe not EVERY time." Certainly he hadn't wanted her following him back when Grell was threatening him and those he loved.


"Liked teaching you to maraud. And to lie."

"Mmmmmm. Mmmhmm. Aye. Because......

Because things had still gone so terribly awry over that cinnamon bun. And -- after all -- wasn't this a relationship kickstarted on the dubious foundation of him stealing gold off her neck?

But, Buffy had to remind herself, she'd been the one to kiss first.

"Well over a year later and I'm still not convinced I learned much, you know."

She'd told Mister Kips as much.

"I'm game for another lesson if you are?" He was fooling no one: Jack wasn't interested in teaching a fish to fly. He just wanted more kisses and enticing situations with her.
