[Buffy sits, quite quietly, on the riverbank near the bridge where she had been taken. Returned now, she looks to be unharmed. No bruises, no cuts, no blood. In a lot of ways she looks as though she hasn't even left.

She hugs her knees to her chest and leans her head back, drinking in the crisp autumnal air. The Slayer looks rather approachable this evening. One might even go so far as to say Buffy looks peaceful.]

(ooc; Back from hiatus and back to my regular scheduled posting. Except a minor dip in tagging over the weekend, though. Going on a small excursion during the days.)

Yeah, well if I were him? I'd get a little protesty with the superiors. You couldn't pay me a million dollars to wear that on the job. Unless of course, that job involved it getting somehow horribly destroyed and therefor entirely unwearable. That, I could handle.

[Observing Spock, she leaps on the question:] So what's blue, then?

I'm about as partial to it as a slug is partial to salt. Not that I'm anything like a slug. And really--okay, okay. That was a poor analogy. [Looking ruffled, she tries to regain control of her own tangents.]

No, I am not a fan of science. Too, well, sciencey.

I'm pretty sure I got a D in science. Or at the very most a C minus. It wasn't really my idea of a good time. Not enough donuts involved.

But you? You're, what--Mister Science Guy back on Jim's ship or something? What with the blue and everything.

Correct. I am his science officer. It is a rank of much responsibility, and not one that can be taken lightly. I cannot afford any mistakes when others are dependent upon my calculations and conclusions.

I understand--folks depending on you can be a big old heap of duty. I've been there. Only, y'know, with less math and more sharp pointy objects.

[She speaks flippantly and frankly because, after all, a comrade of Jim's is a comrade of hers in her rather warped understanding of the situation.]

There is purpose to serving on the Enterprise. As for "sharp, pointy objects", I leave that to Mr. Scott.

Sharp, pointy objects get things done, don't knock'em. I've fulfilled lots of purpose with them. Probably would be less of the living, without them. Still, I guess science can have its uses, too. Especially in space. [This, for some strange reason, seems logical to her. Space automatically means science, after all.]

It has been useful, on occasion. In truth, it would not be my wish to pursue a different career.

Those are the only two options. Either you choose what you are, or someone chooses it for you. Parents, bosses, grumpy old men, or the big powers that be in the sky.

...Nothing is entirely absolute. While it is possible that others may attempt to choose for you, it is ultimately your choice whether you allow them to control your path. Your actions are exclusively your own.

Alright, then. What about prophecy? What if such-and-such of an old scroll says you're going to--oh, I don't know--eat spaghetti tomorrow?

Well, say no one really likes spaghetti, anyway. So there's not really gonna be any desire to consume it. Yet, here's this ye olde parchment claiming that you're going to do it.

Disregarding the fact that no proof has been offered of the scroll's validity, I would question the certainty that this scroll is specifically referring to you.

And short of others forcefully feeding you the spaghetti, you are under no obligations to consume it. Unless there are...dire circumstances that have yet to be mentioned.
