Of course, he'd never given the blue pig to Cleementine. But that was leverage.

You're crooked, Jack Horner. And she won't ever see you as anything but. And yet, will still willingly enjoy your company, laugh at your jokes, and keep you semi-gainfully employed. Buffy was an odd duck.

"He really chewed you out over the language thing, huh?" Good on him.

Jack barely paid attention to the second statement because Jack remembered there really were ponies in Luceti. Talking ponies. He considered the possibility that he could at least introduce Clementine to one. But first, he was going to need to become best friends with a pony. It was a task that gave him absolutely no pleasure, but it might just be worth it.

"Ponies," he repeated thoughtfully. Then he looked at her. "Language?"

"You said he got mad 'cause she picked up some language. Probably of the blue variety, I'm guessing?"

"She thinks fucking is adult hugging." He hasn't found a way to fix that yet.

Oh, gosh. Don't laugh don't laugh please don't laugh. Buffy stuck a thumbnail between her teeth and glanced away, suppressing a smile. Trying to summon forth her righteous indignation.

"...She didn't come to this conclusion all on her own, did she?"

"She... may have been given some help in reaching that conclusion. Purely by accident. But it could be worse. Kids learn worse than that on TV every day!"

Maybe in that old fashioned Leave It To Beaver era you harken from, but things aren't quite so squeaky clean when I'm from.

"Nah. Instead, where you come from? People cover up one mistake with another." She knocked her knuckles against the bar, as if to punctuate her point. "You should have just told her. "It wasn't a nice word. Not a nice word at all. The girl's, like, nine-tenths a morality machine. She would have listened."

Honesty, she was saying, could sometimes indeed be the best policy.

A strange new expression touched her features. Surprise, maybe? Tangled up with a dash of seriousness and a streak of sensible concern. It was laughable, really, how she turned to putty in the hands of anyone who even gave her a whiff of feeling needed.

"You...want my help? I thought you were just looking to complain."

"I was, but if you're going to make commentary, you can at least be useful about it."

"In that case, you're an idiot if you're willing to risk isolating someone she cares about."

"I'm not taking sides, Jack. I'm being the stalwart voice of reason. If you like having Clem around, you're gonna have to make sure she likes having you around too."
